TNVR is just the beginning. The real impact comes from TNVRM — Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return, and Manage.
Colony caretakers across Rochester manage their colonies every day, and Rockats TNRs their cats and supports them as needed. At the same time, we manage several colonies ourselves. Here’s a snapshot of just ONE of our managed colonies:
2023
A request to TNR 3 cats led us to finding more at a nearby dumpster. So we got started
• 39 cats trapped
• 22 returned to colony
• 15 adopted
• 2 returned to owners after spay
2024
• 16 cats trapped/retrapped
• 8 adopted
• 3 returned to colony
• 3 returned to owners after neuter
• 2 fixed colony cats retrapped for medical intervention (one rehomed, one euthanized)
2025
• 19 cats trapped/retrapped
• 8 adopted
• 5 returned to colony
• 3 returned to owners after spay
• 2 fixed colony cats retrapped for grooming or medical intervention (one returned to colony, one rehomed)
• 1 fixed colony cat brought in for excessive sweetness
The impact:
In just 3 years, 69 cats in this 8-block target area were spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and assessed. Many were adopted into homes. Owned cats showing up to eat were fixed too.
Today, at this site, we feed 10 regulars daily. Others wander in and out and eat at other feeders. We monitor them, care for them, and intervene when needed. Every so often we place trail cams to see who we’re not seeing. We know the cats. The community knows us.
This is what TNVRM looks like in the city. Fewer cats on the streets. Healthier cats in colonies. Litters prevented. Communities strengthened. Heartbreak, worry, and frustration. Joy and satisfaction.
♥️Thank you to our fosters and the rescue partners who helped make happy endings possible for the friendly cats in this colony: Keller’s Kats, Kitten Korner, Right Meow, Flower City Kitties, Rochester Animal Services, and Lollypop Farm.
Your donations help the cats and are greatly appreciated ♥️ Donation link in the bio.

Are you currently cat-less and in need of some kitty companionship? We have several beauties who would love to be your one and only valentine.
Major is a quiet, gentle boy who had a rough start in life and has been waiting two long years for his special someone. He’s uber chill, loves to be near you for some chin scratches, and enjoys having his silky soft locks brushed. Major is approx 5 yrs old, neutered, vaccinated, FIV+ and ready to meet you ♥️
Lucille is a vocal, confident girl who has an opinion on everything. She somehow found herself out on the street where she tolerated other kitties until she didn’t. Lucille’s about 5 yrs old, spayed, vaccinated, negative for FIV and feline leukemia and eager to tell you why she’s so special ♥️
Major and Lucille need to be solo kitties.
Contact us at [email protected] if interested in adopting and please share.

Some pics of the 24 cats we helped in January. Each one has a story we often never know in full. We want to thank every kind person out there who is feeding, offering warm shelter, contacting us for help with the injured, ill, and abandoned, and making the decision to take a colony cat indoors after they get their basic vet care. We ♥️ working with all of you during these cold months.
Thank you to those who donated to Bobby’s & Nelson’s vet costs. We met our goal to have these more expensive bills paid in full thanks to your amazing generosity 💕 We could not do this without you.
...
In addition to this incredibly tough winter, we’ve started the year with some big vet bills. These two very special boys need your help 🐾
Bobby showed up at a colony with a badly injured right hind leg. In February he’ll have surgery to amputate dislocated toes and biopsy his poorly-healing paw. Estimated cost is $1471. He hasn’t let any of this dull his sweet demeanor and always wants to be right near his foster mom 🐱
Nelson was surviving near a dumpster and kept his distance from his feeder. Once trapped we discovered he’s a total lovebug. This week he had his painful blind eye removed. Cost $547. Nelson loves cuddling with his foster mom, kittens and even puppies. Not the shy guy he presented as at the dumpster.
Every donation helps these boys and other cats in our care get their second chance. Thank you for your support ❤️ Link to donate in out bio.

🥶 We make a lot of decisions when we do TNR but during the winter there are even more. Each week, we carefully prioritize which cats can safely fill our spay/neuter spots—those with injuries, abandoned cats not acclimated to the outdoors, or friendly cats who won’t be returning outside. Our holding space is small - another limiting factor.
A huge THANK YOU to feeders who can offer indoor access during the cold months—you make a lifesaving difference. ♥️
Stubby is one of the lucky ones. After lots of short indoor visits, he received care at Lollypop Farm (@lollypopfarm ) and is now recovering from his neuter and paw injury in his feeder’s home.
With a warm space, the right setup, and safe practices, these cats can be protected even in bitter cold. We’ve included a picture of our basic “feral” setup and we’re happy to offer guidance and support.
Endless gratitude to our volunteers for longer hold times and loving care.
Your donations help make this possible. Any amount is greatly needed and appreciated. ♥️ link to donate in out bio.

Biscotti and Moonbeam are enjoying some greenery on this cold, snowy day.
Biscotti loves people and has a big heart—he’s friendly, curious, and just needs a little help polishing his kitty manners and learning to share space with other cats. Moonbeam is the opposite: he adores other cats and would thrive with a feline friend, but he’s still learning to trust people and will do best with someone patient and kind.
We love them both and know the right home is out there ♥️

Thank you to all the volunteers who continue to devote many hours to making winter shelters and distributing them to cats in need. Thank you to those who donated last Tuesday, Giving Tuesday. With your support we raised $1400 - enough to cover a third of last month’s clinic bills. In November, 32 cats were fixed and vaccinated, five kittens and two adults were transferred to rescue partners. Although adoptions have picked up, we still have 29 friendly cats in our care -in foster homes and our adoption center. Fundraising is never-ending, difficult, and our least favorite activity. We know you have many rescue options to choose from when you donate. Thank you for choosing us ♥️ ...

Today’s Roc the Day! Your support helps us continue our mission. Since 2022, our volunteers have worked diligently day after day, good weather and bad, to decrease the number of cats living on the streets - talking to colony caretakers, trapping, transporting cats to vet appointments, and distributing door hangers in the community explaining the many benefits of TNR.
Every cat who enters a trap is evaluated for temperament and overall health and safety. Yes, many cats go back to their original environment where they are cared for by devoted city residents or our volunteers. But every year, several hundred cats and kittens leave the streets and move indoors. This only happens because of TNR, teamwork, and YOU.
Thanks to YOUR donations over the past four years, we’ve helped 500 to 600 cats annually — ensuring they are spayed and neutered, vaccinated, and receive other necessary veterinary care. Please help us start 2026 with the support we need to continue helping so many cats in Rochester. THANK YOU! Link in our bio!

We hope your Thanksgiving Day was filled with family, friends, and wonderful food. We are incredibly grateful for the volunteers who devoted their time and care yesterday to the cats who depend on us. Without their dedication, we could not support the large number of cats living on the streets.
And to our donors-thank you! Your generosity makes it possible for us to get these cats the vet care they need. Please remember us on Giving Tuesday, December 2nd, as we are once again participating in ROC the Day!
While we’re always overwhelmed with the number of requests for help, and constantly worried about funds, thanks to our volunteers and donors, we can continue helping the many cats who need us. ♥️

We have so much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving — our volunteers, rescue partners, vet affiliates, fosters, donors and supporters. We are incredibly thankful for the wonderful families who’ve adopted our friendly kitties. Thank you for giving these special cats, warm, safe and loving homes ♥️ ...
Thank you to everyone who made winter shelters this weekend ♥️ We met so many lovely people who love the cats and want to help them weather the winter.
Thank you to Gretchen, Alan, and Joan our super-dedicated volunteers and Rachel from Rochester Animal Services for making this day a success ♥️
Not all cats will use shelters but most will. Place them in areas out of public view where the cats usually sleep, face them against a wall or each other to block the wind, elevate off the ground, place straw underneath, weight them down so they are stable, use plenty of straw inside, sprinkle with catnip. Remember to keep at a reasonable distance from feeding area (not too close and not too far) and never put food, water, or fabrics in the shelter. If not being used, try a different location and a little more catnip 🐱
Thank you for making winter a little better for our feline friends 🐱 We are always in need of thick-walled coolers. Contact us if you have some that could fit one or two cats.
...
It’s hard to enjoy the winter when you know there are so many cats outside. So it makes us especially happy to see the cats using their insulated shelters ♥️ We want to thank Girl Scout troop 61062 for their help in getting shelters to us last month!.
Join us this Sunday Nov 16th 12p- 2p at 460 Oak St. We’ll have the materials you need to make a simple yet very warm winter shelter. Participants can take the shelter they make with them once it’s finished and stuffed with straw. Please remember to only use straw to fill shelters and replace twice a year.
Thank you to Rochester Animal Services for securing the space. Details on the last slide.

When we formed our nonprofit in 2022, we had no idea how many adoptable cats would end up in our traps. Each year - including 2025 to date - roughly 30% of the cats turn out to be friendly companions.
Although this is a rescue - rich area, transferring friendly cats to rescue partners isn’t always an option and foster homes are always in short supply.
Last year we opened up a small place in N Winton Village for fully-vetted adoptable cats. It’s a work in progress, but an amazing group of volunteers let the cats have fun while waiting for their purrfect adopters.
Our primary mission is TNR- spaying and neutering the cats who remain outdoors due to temperament and making sure they are well-cared for. But TNR also allows us to find those gentle, sociable kitties and give them a second chance. Your donations allow this to happen🐱 link to donate in our bio! Thank you! ♥️

We took advantage of every affordable spay/neuter appointment within an hour of Rochester last month and 67 beautiful cats will no longer be adding litters of kittens to the overwhelming number of cats on the streets. We continue to fix cats at known colonies and started working on a few new colonies in October. The calls never stop.
Thank you to our dedicated volunteers for trapping and transporting, our rescue partners for accepting friendlies, and the amazing vet staff at Lollypop Farm @lollypopfarm , Whiskers to Tails, and the Wyoming County SPCA @wyoming_county_spca . We have to work together to make real progress 🐱
We’ll be spending the next few months on raising much-needed funds and making sure that the colonies we’ve TNRd have everything they need to get through the winter months. Thank you for your support ♥️

Cat-savvy foster needed ASAP 🐱
Can you help this beautiful, sassy lady? Madeline showed up several months ago and was being cared for outside over the summer. After lots of “found cat” posts no one claimed her. At her vet appointment she was found to have been spayed in the past. Her vaccines were updated, her FIV/feline leukemia test was negative, and she was microchipped, flea-treated and dewormed. She’s sweet but demands attention and is currently in one room which doesn’t suit her one bit. We think the attention-seeking behaviors will dissipate once she has more room to roam. Her kind feeder is keeping her inside for the time being but this kitty needs more than she can give her. Cat-free home may be best but unclear at this time. Contact us if you can help!

Beanie has been patiently waiting for her purrfect adopter since May. This adorable polydactyl girl would do best as an only kitty where she can completely relax and be queen of her kingdom. Beanie’s currently living with a lot of rowdy boys who really rock her boat and she’s more than ready to jump ship.
While a little shy at first, give this sweetie a bit of time and she’ll sit beside you with her mittens in your lap. Then you’ll know you’re her favorite human. Contact us if you are ready to meet this lovely kitty 🐱

We’ve been busy trapping in the Lyell-Otis neighborhood the past two weeks working alongside several very devoted caretakers. One lucky guy, Jack, was brought inside after receiving his long-awaited vet care.
This neighborhood has a significant need for spay/neuter services -for both outdoor and indoor cats- and we were fortunate to connect with members of the Lyell-Otis Community Association! We look forward to working together for more sustainable success.
The large number of free-roaming cats didn’t happen overnight, and it won’t be solved overnight either. With collaboration and steady, focused commitment we have the best chance of curbing cat overpopulation.
Your donations go directly to pay the vet bills we accrue each month. We are tremendously grateful for your support ♥️

Good news! We have feral appointments next Monday. Why the excitement? Because we can train trappers on a Sunday. So…. If you’ve wanted to trap but aren’t available on our usual Thursday trapping day, now’s your time to get started!
Trapping is so much more than just setting a trap. Assessing a colony ahead of time and feeding in an open, unset trap for a few days meant we trapped the females in this colony quickly this morning.
The reality: two few spay/neuter appointments and too many cats means we selectively trap females right now. Winter coming means we try for females now. You don’t need a drop trap to single out the females. Bottle and string will do the trick!
We need trappers! Contact us to join us!

Thanks to the Community Cats Podcast for highlighting how we can use our resources wisely to tackle cat overpopulation.
Their Community Cat Pyramid reminds us we can’t rescue, adopt, or relocate our way out of this crisis. Prioritizing resources and funds for spay/neuter of free-roaming and pet cats will have the greatest impact and create lasting change.
Our mission remains TNVR and assisting low-income cat owners with spay/neuter. We depend on your donations so we can do more of what truly works. We’re grateful for donations of any amount. Link in our bio!
Can’t donate? We are in need of volunteers to trap, transport, participate in community outreach, and help with feeding our RocKats managed colonies. Contact us to join us 🐱

Meet Mr Chunks. This BIG boy was trapped in the summer and proved to be quite the charmer. With a pronounced limp and little interest in moving around too much, he was in no shape to be returned outdoors after his neuter. Chunks had an ortho consult this week and we’re happy to report that his hind leg does not need surgical intervention. With pain meds, joint supplements, and fewer calories, we are hoping he feels as good as he looks. Tuesday we welcomed back the wonderful Whiskers to Tails team who spayed and neutered 15 friendlies and 19 community cats. One tipped girl had her ingrown nails taken care of and vaccines updated and is on crate rest. We love being able to get health concerns of ferals taken care of when this team comes to town🐱
These large clinics are a lot of work for our volunteers, but knowing that these beautiful cats will be healthier and not contributing to more litters of kittens makes all the work worth it.

We’re relieved to see August come to an end - a month that brought more than its share of challenges. While it tested us in many ways, we’re proud to share that we were still able to help 48 cats receive their spays and neuters with several kitties needing some extra TLC and vet care.
Please consider donating to support our mission.
Low-cost spay/neuter is not “no-cost” -and the care doesn’t stop there. Many of the cats we help require crate rest to recover from injuries or wounds, which means added expenses for food, litter, and vet care.
The cats we help come from Rochester’s poorest neighborhoods. These are street cats — rarely true ferals— cats who live outdoors in close proximity to their human caretakers or cats who are the forgotten feline victims of abandonment and eviction. 😿
Your support helps us continue. Thank you as always for liking, sharing, and donating 🐱 Link to donate in bio!
